Biopic on Gambling Influencer Vegas Matt in Development

Shonda Rhimes

Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Filmmaker Mike Young is embarking on an independent cinematic venture centered on the compelling story of the celebrated gambler, Vegas Matt.

Red Leaf Entertainment is backing the development of "The Chop," a dramatic feature with Young attached to write the screenplay and produce. This film draws inspiration from the real-life trajectory of Stephen Matt Morrow, famously known as Vegas Matt, detailing his transformation into an expert advantage slot player and a prominent figure in the gambling influencer sphere, commanding a YouTube audience exceeding 1.6 million.

Anticipated to commence production in 2027, "The Chop" is currently without a director. Further details regarding its financial backing, production logistics, and casting will be disclosed at a later time.

At its heart, this cinematic endeavor delves into the life of Morrow, a committed spouse and parent whose existence takes an unexpected turn as he delves into the exhilarating realm of advantage gambling in Las Vegas. The narrative follows the protagonist as he allies with a group of unconventional gamblers. As their collective fame escalates, Morrow finds himself navigating the complexities and trials that accompany his newfound success.

Young, a multifaceted talent encompassing writing, directing, and stand-up comedy, previously helmed "Stealing Jokes," a film starring Michael Rapaport that secured theatrical distribution through Byron Allen's Freestyle. Young expressed his immediate connection to the human element of Morrow's narrative, stating, "This is more than just a tale of Las Vegas or gambling; it's a story of trust, camaraderie, and an unexpected realization of the American Dream." Morrow echoed this sentiment, highlighting Young's grasp of the narrative's true essence: "The most captivating aspect of this story isn't the outcomes at the tables or the fortunate spins, but rather the clandestine economy and the unique subculture it fosters. It encompasses genuine risks, profound relationships, and pivotal moments that reshaped my life. I am eager to collaborate with Mike to bring our story to the silver screen."

This film serves as a powerful testament to the extraordinary paths individuals can forge, demonstrating that the human experience, replete with its trials and triumphs, offers narratives far more profound than mere chance. It celebrates the spirit of resilience, the strength of human connection, and the pursuit of dreams, however unconventional they may be.
