Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has announced a significant expansion of its Motion Picture Literary Department with the appointment of Steve Roy. This move is poised to bolster CAA's representation in the film industry, leveraging Roy's expertise and established network.

Before joining CAA, Roy developed his career at Buchwald, where he progressed from an assistant to a prominent agent in 2023. During his tenure at Buchwald, he cultivated a notable portfolio of clients, including distinguished writers and directors. Among them are Juan Pablo González, known for “Dos Estaciones”; Nicholas Colia, recognized for “Griffin in Summer”; Alan Scott Neal, writer of “Last Straw”; Luke Shanahan, director of “Rabbit”; Kasper Møller Rask, creator of “Norland '99”; John Strauss, co-writer of “There's Something About Mary”; and Scott Rashap, who penned “Toru.” Roy will be based in CAA’s Los Angeles office, reporting directly to Dan Rabinow and Ida Ziniti, co-heads of the Motion Picture Literary department.

This latest recruitment follows a period of active growth for CAA. In February, the agency promoted six individuals across its motion picture talent and sports broadcasting divisions, signaling a robust strategy for internal development. Furthermore, CAA has recently secured representation for several high-profile figures, including singer-songwriter Alicia Keys, showrunner Celeste Parr, influencer Nara Smith, marketing executive Bozoma Saint John, writer Sophie Fleur, and chef Kwame Onwuachi. The agency also broadened its scope by signing Josh Wakely’s interactive label, Grace Games. In a broader strategic initiative, CAA recently unveiled Frame1Games, a new venture designed to support and fund independent video game projects, offering capital investment, mentorship, and market access to developers. Additionally, prominent figures like George Clooney, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Alexandre Desplat recently participated in CAA’s “The Future of … Creativity” forum at Venice, discussing the evolving landscape of creative industries.
