Vidio, Indonesia's premier streaming service, has forged a strategic alliance with ReelShort, a prominent micro-drama provider, to bring an extensive collection of short-form dramas to Indonesian audiences. This groundbreaking partnership, effective September 1, will enrich Vidio's offerings with a diverse range of genres, including fantasy, family drama, romance, and billionaire romance, all presented in bite-sized episodes.

This collaboration signifies ReelShort's strategic entry into the Indonesian market, following successful ventures in Thailand and the Philippines. The content will be conveniently housed within a dedicated 'Short Drama' section on Vidio, accessible to subscribers of their TV Extra, Platinum, Platinum Extra, and Ultimate packages. A significant portion of these titles will feature Indonesian dubbing, alongside a broader selection offering Indonesian subtitles, catering to a wide audience preference.

Beyond content distribution, the agreement encompasses co-production initiatives between ReelShort and Indonesian production houses. This joint effort is designed to foster a valuable exchange of skills and expertise, providing local creative talent with exposure to ReelShort's proven production methodologies. The resulting co-produced series will be available on both platforms, further expanding reach and showcasing regional narratives. This partnership was facilitated by AR Global Media Network.

According to Media Partners Asia (MPA), ReelShort currently commands an impressive 29% share of the global short-form drama revenue. Vidio's existing 'Short Drama' section, launched last year, has already garnered significant traction. By the second quarter of 2026, Vidio had amassed 5.8 million paying subscribers in Southeast Asia, positioning it as the third-largest player in the region. Data from MPA further highlights Indonesia as the largest market for short-form drama viewership in Asia-Pacific, accounting for 39% of the region's audience. Mobile advertising company Mintegral reports a quarterly growth of 50%-200% for short-form drama applications since the third quarter of 2023, underscoring the format's surging popularity.

Sutanto Hartono, CEO of Vidio, emphasized that this move reflects Vidio's commitment to adapting to evolving entertainment consumption habits. He noted that as viewers increasingly seek content that integrates seamlessly into their daily lives, Vidio aims to be a comprehensive platform offering a wide array of entertainment, from live sports and local originals to global content and now, short dramas. Hartono stated that this partnership not only addresses emerging audience demand but also solidifies Vidio's standing as Indonesia's most inclusive entertainment hub, providing greater choice, convenience, and an enhanced viewing experience for its subscribers.

Joey Jia, founder and CEO of Crazy Maple Studio, hailed the agreement as a pivotal moment for the company's regional strategy, indicating a broader shift towards mainstream acceptance of microdramas. Jia recognized Indonesia as one of the most vibrant entertainment markets in the region, seeing immense potential not only in expanding access to ReelShort's international catalog but also in developing original narratives tailored for Indonesian viewers. He expressed enthusiasm for combining ReelShort's global expertise in creating high-impact short-drama intellectual property with local creative talent to craft stories and franchises that resonate within Indonesia and beyond.

Vidio's strategic expansion builds upon its established leadership in Indonesia's subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) market. The MPA and AMPD Online Video Consumer Insights: Southeast Asia Q2 2026 report indicates that Vidio holds the largest share of SVOD subscriptions in Indonesia, at 20.7%. Vivek Couto, CEO and executive director of MPA, attributed Vidio's success in a highly competitive market to its ability to achieve scale through a deep understanding of local market dynamics, supported by robust local content and diverse engagement across various categories. He further emphasized the growing importance of local platforms in shaping the streaming landscape across Southeast Asia.

This collaboration will make thousands of ReelShort episodes readily available on Vidio's dedicated Short Drama section starting September 1st, promising a fresh wave of engaging and accessible entertainment for Indonesian viewers.
