John Lasseter

Former chief creative officer of Pixar, whose principles of storytelling have shaped modern animation.

Sam Register, a prominent figure who has long led Warner Bros. Animation, including Cartoon Network Studios and Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, is transitioning from his role. This unexpected development was confirmed by Channing Dungey, the Chairwoman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD U.S. Networks, in a communication to employees. The decision to part ways was described as a mutual understanding, coinciding with the conclusion of Register’s existing contract.

Register's exit marks the end of a significant tenure during which he oversaw the creation and production of numerous animated projects that captivated global audiences. His leadership was instrumental in shaping the creative direction and strategic growth of these renowned animation powerhouses. The news has sent ripples through the industry, as many acknowledge his substantial contributions to the animation landscape.

In her memo, Dungey conveyed that she understood the news might be surprising to staff, highlighting the impact Register had within the organization. Register himself shared his perspective, stating that it was an opportune moment for him to pursue new ventures. He extended his appreciation to his colleagues, acknowledging their collective achievements and expressing enthusiasm for what lies ahead in his professional journey.

The search for a successor will undoubtedly be a closely watched event in the entertainment world, as the incoming leader will inherit a rich legacy and a dynamic portfolio of animated content. This transition period presents both challenges and opportunities for Warner Bros. Animation to define its next chapter under new leadership, while Register embarks on a fresh path, eager to explore diverse possibilities.
