The Unstoppable Pippi: A New Animated Journey Begins!

StudioCanal Leads the Reimagination of a Childhood Classic

StudioCanal has announced its involvement in bringing a new animated television series centered around Pippi Longstocking to the screen. This ambitious project is a joint venture with Heyday Films, renowned for their work on the Paddington movies, Submarine, and The Astrid Lindgren Company, ensuring a faithful yet fresh interpretation of the beloved character.

From Page to Screen: Crafting Pippi's Latest Adventure

Sara Daddy, the accomplished screenwriter, is diligently working on the script for the forthcoming series. Her task is to capture the essence of Pippi Longstocking, the extraordinary girl known for her immense strength, boundless energy, and compassionate spirit, all adorned with her distinctive red pigtails. Initially, a cinematic adaptation was considered, but the team ultimately decided that a television series would best serve to modernize and retell Pippi's tales for contemporary audiences.

The Enduring Legacy of Pippi Longstocking

Pippi Longstocking first graced the literary world in 1945, born from the bedtime stories author Astrid Lindgren shared with her daughter. Since then, the character has captivated millions worldwide, with her adventures translated into 80 languages and selling over 90 million copies. Her popularity has previously led to numerous adaptations across film and television, testament to her universal appeal.

Global Reach and Production Kick-off for the Animated Series

StudioCanal is poised to manage the global distribution of the new animated Pippi Longstocking series. The production phase is slated to commence in October, promising an exciting new chapter for fans. The production credits feature a dedicated team including David Heyman, Rosie Alison, Rob Silva, and Simon Quinn, with Karen Davidsen also contributing. Ron Halpern is overseeing the project on behalf of StudioCanal.

A Shared Vision for Pippi's Continued Adventures

In a joint statement, Heyman, Alison, and Silva from Heyday Films expressed their enthusiasm for the project. They highlighted Pippi Longstocking's status as a cherished icon, celebrating her unique perspective, joyful and free-spirited nature, and her unwavering resilience. The team is particularly excited to reintroduce Pippi to a new generation through this animated series, working closely with writer Sara Daddy, the innovative animators at Submarine, The Astrid Lindgren Company, and StudioCanal, to ensure her originality shines as brightly as ever.
