Prolific author of horror and suspense, who also writes extensively on the craft of writing and pop culture.

Renowned filmmaker Curry Barker, fresh off the monumental success of his film "Obsession," has officially announced his next cinematic endeavor. This new project, his third feature, will be developed under a significant eight-figure agreement with Universal Film Group and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. This strategic partnership ensures Barker's continued association with Universal, the studio behind his previous hits, and signals an exciting new chapter for the visionary director.

The deal represents a continuation of Barker's successful collaboration with Universal, as his breakthrough film, "Obsession," was distributed by Universal's Focus Features label. Additionally, his second feature, "Anything But Ghosts," which he wrote, directed, and stars in, has already been completed under the Focus Features banner. This new agreement solidifies a strong foundation for Barker within the Universal family, fostering an environment where his distinctive storytelling can flourish.

Blumhouse Atomic Monster, key players in Barker's recent successes, will once again serve as production entities for this unnamed project. They previously joined "Obsession" after its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival and were instrumental in the production of "Anything But Ghosts." Their renewed involvement underscores the confidence in Barker's creative vision and his ability to deliver compelling narratives that resonate with audiences. Additional production support comes from Roy Lee and Steven Schneider’s Spooky Pictures, alongside Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath’s Divide/Conquer, known for their work on horror films like "The Black Phone" and "Heart Eyes."

While specific details about the upcoming film remain under wraps, it is confirmed to be an original horror concept conceived by Barker himself. The project was acquired by Universal's top executives based on Barker's initial pitch, indicating the high anticipation and belief in his ability to push creative boundaries within the genre. Donna Langley, chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment, praised Barker's unique talent, stating that he possesses an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences and redefine filmmaking possibilities.

"Obsession" has become a cultural phenomenon since its release on May 15, sparking widespread discussion on various topics, from industry trends to societal issues. The film's remarkable performance, consistently outperforming its opening weekend for four consecutive weeks, has led it to become Focus Features' highest-grossing release to date. With worldwide earnings projected to exceed $300 million and whispers of Oscar nominations, "Obsession" started as an independent production with a modest $750,000 budget before being acquired by Focus Features at TIFF. Barker expressed his enthusiasm for the new project, highlighting his eagerness to rejoin Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Film Group, which he regards as an ideal home for innovative storytelling.

James Wan and Jason Blum, partners at Blumhouse Atomic Monster, reiterated their commitment to Barker, acknowledging his rare talent for creating original content that captivates a broad audience. They emphasized their pride in expanding their collaboration with him, stating that bringing Barker's work to his dedicated fanbase is the core motivation behind their endeavors. This ongoing partnership promises to continue delivering unique and impactful films to the global stage, distributed worldwide by Universal Film Group.

Curry Barker's journey continues to impress, with his latest venture poised to further solidify his standing as a significant force in contemporary cinema. The exclusive deal with Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster not only highlights the industry's recognition of his innovative approach but also ensures a platform for his future projects to reach a global audience, expanding on the success of "Obsession."
