After the immense triumph of his debut movie, “Obsession,” which achieved record-breaking success for Focus Features, director Curry Barker is embarking on his third cinematic venture—an original horror concept. This highly anticipated project is a collaboration with industry giants Universal Film Group and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, signaling a continued strong partnership for Barker within the horror genre.

Filmmaker Curry Barker's New Horror Project Lands at Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster

On an exciting day in mid-June, 2026, the burgeoning talent, Curry Barker, officially confirmed a new deal for his third feature film. Following the groundbreaking success of his first film, “Obsession,” which shattered box office records for Focus Features and is projected to exceed $300 million globally, Barker is poised to deliver another thrilling cinematic experience. This new, original horror concept will be developed and distributed under the prestigious banners of Universal Film Group and Blumhouse Atomic Monster. Barker will not only direct but also pen the screenplay and produce this upcoming project.

The collaboration extends to include Spooky Pictures, led by Roy Lee and Steven Schneider, and Divide/Conquer, helmed by Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath. These partnerships underscore the industry’s confidence in Barker’s unique vision and storytelling capabilities. While specific plot details for the untitled horror film are being kept under wraps, the excitement surrounding the project is palpable. The foundation for this collaboration was laid even before “Obsession” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, as Blumhouse Atomic Monster, Spooky Pictures, and Divide/Conquer had already committed to Barker’s second film, “Anything But Ghosts.”

“Anything But Ghosts,” which is currently in its post-production phase, features Barker in a dual role as director and star. He co-wrote the script with Cooper Tomlinson, who also appears in the film. The cast is further enhanced by the talents of Aaron Paul and Bryce Dallas Howard. The narrative centers on two deceptive paranormal investigators who find themselves confronted by genuine supernatural entities, forcing them to face the pretense of their professional lives. This film is also a product of the partnership between Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Focus Features. The latest news regarding Barker’s third film was initially broken by The Hollywood Reporter, cementing its status as a significant development in the film industry.

Curry Barker's journey from a record-breaking debut to a highly anticipated third film demonstrates a clear trajectory of creative success and strategic partnerships. His ability to craft compelling narratives that resonate with a wide audience, coupled with strong studio backing, positions him as a formidable force in contemporary cinema. This latest announcement not only excites horror fans but also highlights the dynamic and evolving landscape of film production, where original concepts continue to find fertile ground with major players.
