The 2026 Winter Olympics have concluded, marking a significant milestone in viewership. The games captivated an average of 23.5 million viewers across NBCUniversal and Peacock platforms, showcasing a remarkable surge in audience engagement compared to the 2022 event. This substantial increase underscores a revitalized interest in winter sports and major global competitions, with streaming platforms playing a crucial role in expanding reach and accessibility. The comprehensive viewing figures, incorporating both traditional broadcasts and digital streaming, reflect a changing landscape in media consumption and the strategic success of NBCUniversal's multi-platform approach.

The Milan-Cortina Olympics distinguished themselves as the most streamed winter games in history. Peacock, NBCUniversal's streaming service, continuously accumulated impressive viewership numbers throughout the event. By its conclusion, the games had recorded an astonishing 16.7 billion minutes of streaming time. This figure is more than double the cumulative streaming minutes from all preceding Winter Olympics combined, a testament to Peacock's growing prominence and the evolving digital habits of viewers. This digital success was further amplified by the games maintaining over 20 million daily viewers for the entirety of the 15-day competition, including the opening ceremony on February 6th.

Rick Cordelia, president of NBC Sports, highlighted the collaborative effort behind this success. He credited the robust performance of the Milan-Cortina Olympics, along with other major sporting events like Super Bowl LX and the 2026 NBA All-Star weekend, to the extensive support from various divisions within Comcast NBCUniversal. This included contributions from Peacock, NBC Entertainment, NBC News, Telemundo, local stations, NBC affiliates, and the dedicated ad sales and distribution teams, as well as Xfinity. Furthermore, Cordelia acknowledged the vital partnerships with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), the National Football League (NFL), and the National Basketball Association (NBA).

A notable highlight of the games was the women's gold medal hockey match between the United States and Canada on February 21st, which attracted 5.3 million viewers. This set a new record for women's hockey viewership in the U.S., demonstrating the growing popularity and competitive appeal of women's sports. The men's final, also featuring a U.S. victory over Canada in overtime, is expected to report similarly strong ratings. These individual event successes contributed significantly to the overall impressive viewership figures.

February proved to be Peacock's most successful month to date, an outcome directly linked to the Olympic programming. The streaming platform and other NBCU digital channels averaged 3.3 million daily viewers for the "Milan Prime" afternoon telecasts and the primetime replays. This accounted for approximately 14 percent of the total 23.5 million average audience. Beyond sports, the Super Bowl, Olympics, and NBA coverage also created a positive "halo effect" for Peacock's entertainment content. Shows like *The Burbs*, *The Traitors*, *Ponies*, and *All Her Fault* all experienced significant viewing increases during and after these major sporting events, indicating a cross-promotional success that extended beyond the initial sports-centric draw.

In summary, the 2026 Winter Olympics delivered an extraordinary performance in terms of audience engagement, nearly doubling the viewership of the previous games. This achievement was driven by a powerful combination of traditional broadcast reach and record-breaking streaming numbers on Peacock, marking a new era for Olympic broadcasting and digital consumption.
