Thriller Series 'Gone' Secures International Pre-Sales

Comedian, writer, and actor who created "The Office" and writes provocatively on comedy and society.

George Kay's latest psychological thriller, 'Gone,' has garnered significant international interest, securing pre-sales across four continents. This six-part series, featuring David Morrissey and Eve Myles, has been acquired by major broadcasters and streaming platforms, highlighting its global appeal and anticipation within the television industry.

The series, set to premiere on ITV and ITVX in March, centers on a British elite private school headmaster, portrayed by David Morrissey, whose wife inexplicably disappears. The narrative intensifies with the introduction of Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles, who immediately suspects the headmaster. This dynamic sets the stage for a compelling psychological cat-and-mouse drama, exploring themes of privilege, prejudice, and the elusive nature of truth.

All3Media International has successfully closed deals for 'Gone' with BritBox for the North American market, signaling a strong start for its global distribution. Additionally, robust pre-sales include Stan in Australia, Sky New Zealand (for broadcast on Three and streaming on ThreeNow), and BBC Studios' premium SVOD drama channel, BBC First, along with its multi-genre SVOD platform, BBC Player, across Asia. These widespread acquisitions underscore the series' potential to captivate diverse international audiences.

Kay, known for his work on 'Hijack,' 'The Long Shadow,' and 'Lupin,' described 'Gone' as a story delving into the intricate layers of trauma, trust, and the societal impact of established institutions. The series is produced by Observatory Pictures and New Pictures, in collaboration with All3Media International. BAFTA-winning director Richard Laxton, celebrated for 'Mrs Wilson' and 'The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe,' directs the series. The cast also includes Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham, and Clare Higgins. While a work of fiction, 'Gone' draws inspiration from real-world investigative work, with former Detective Superintendent Julie Mackay and ITV Crime Correspondent Robert Murphy serving as consultants.

The strong reception from international buyers at the London TV Screenings underscores the series' compelling premise and high production value. Jennifer Askin, EVP Americas at All3Media International, highlighted the blend of psychological mystery, claustrophobic thriller elements, and complex character drama as key factors in its broad appeal. The atmospheric setting and tightly constructed narrative, combined with the stellar performances of Morrissey and Myles, are expected to deliver sustained tension and engage a wide audience.

This new project from George Kay is anticipated to be a significant highlight of the upcoming television season, with its intricate plot and exploration of profound themes resonating deeply with viewers worldwide.
