In a charming blend of life imitating art, Hollywood couple Tim Daly and Tea Leoni are set to bring their real-life marital chemistry to the screen in NBC's upcoming comedy pilot, 'Newlyweds.' This new series will see them portray a pair embarking on a whirlwind romance leading to a late-in-life marriage, a narrative that closely echoes their personal journey. The pilot gains further creative strength with veteran director Pam Fryman at the helm, promising a heartfelt and humorous exploration of mature love.

The concept of 'Newlyweds,' conceived by creator Gail Lerner, revolves around Jeanie (Tea Leoni), a free-spirited woman, and Tony (Tim Daly), a more reserved professor. Their paths cross unexpectedly at a valet stand, sparking an instant connection that rapidly develops into marriage. Tony, recently divorced, finds himself captivated by Jeanie's vivacious nature, realizing that his life with her will be anything but quiet. Despite the impending shift from his accustomed low-key existence, he embraces the change, unwilling to live without her vibrant presence.

Their off-screen romance blossomed during their time on the CBS drama 'Madam Secretary,' which aired from 2014 to 2019, culminating in their marriage in July 2025. This deep personal connection is expected to infuse their on-screen performances with an authentic and engaging dynamic.

Tim Daly's extensive career includes a recent recurring role in Netflix's sitcom 'Leanne,' his memorable performance in the 1990s NBC comedy 'Wings,' and voice work in 'Superman: The Animated Series.' He also earned an Emmy nomination for a guest appearance on 'The Sopranos.' His representation includes IAG, Gateway Management & Production, and Behr Abramson. Meanwhile, Pam Fryman, known for her directorial work on popular shows like 'How I Met Your Mother' and 'Happy's Place,' will not only direct but also serve as an executive producer for the pilot.

The production of 'Newlyweds' is a collaboration with Universal Television. Gail Lerner serves as an executive producer alongside co-creator Jamie Lee Curtis, Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, Lionsgate Television, and Pam Fryman. Tea Leoni also holds a producer credit, further cementing her involvement in shaping this promising new series.

This pilot presents a delightful premise, exploring the complexities and joys of finding love and marriage later in life. With a talented cast led by real-life partners and an experienced creative team, 'Newlyweds' aims to offer a refreshing take on romantic comedy, promising both warmth and laughter as it delves into the adjustments and revelations that come with newfound wedded bliss.
