Skyrim Anniversary Edition for Switch 2 Receives Significant Performance Upgrade

A recent development brings significant enhancements to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition for the Switch 2 platform. Last year's release of the title faced criticism regarding its performance, prompting Bethesda to issue a series of updates aimed at refining the player experience. The latest in these efforts is Update 1.2, which has been deployed this week.

This substantial patch introduces a versatile 60Hz mode, allowing users to actively switch their display preferences between maintaining optimal visual quality or boosting overall performance. When visuals are prioritized, the frame rate is now consistently locked at 30 frames per second, ensuring smoother gameplay. Furthermore, the update specifically targets and rectifies instances of noticeable frame rate dips in various in-game locations and addresses known issues with Joy-Con 2 controller functionality. Beyond performance, the patch comprehensively tackles a range of technical glitches, including multiple crash scenarios related to game loading, audio processing, and specific spell casting, alongside visual imperfections such as water rendering and distant object appearance, and user interface inconsistencies affecting mouse and controller interactions. Control refinements, including fixes for the 'Eagle Eye' Archery perk and unresponsive buttons during remapping, coupled with an audio bug resolution and localization adjustments, round out this extensive overhaul.

This update builds upon a previous patch from late December 2025 that focused on mitigating input latency issues, which were a considerable point of contention for players. The ongoing commitment by Bethesda to refine the game's performance and stability demonstrates a dedication to its player base, transforming a once 'hugely disappointing' experience, particularly due to its initial 30fps cap and significant input lag, into a much more enjoyable and fluid adventure on the Switch 2. This proactive approach to post-launch support not only rectifies past shortcomings but also sets a positive precedent for how developers can continue to evolve and enhance games for their dedicated communities.
