Peacock, the streaming service operated by NBCUniversal, recently achieved its first profitable quarter since its 2020 launch, a notable turning point in its financial trajectory. However, subscribers will soon face another round of price adjustments, signaling the company's strategy to balance growth with revenue generation.

Peacock Increases Subscription Fees Amidst Financial Gains and Content Investments

As of August 18, 2026, Peacock, the streaming platform under NBCUniversal, has initiated new pricing structures for its subscription plans. The ad-supported Peacock Premium service will see its monthly cost rise from $10.99 to $12.99, while the ad-free Peacock Premium Plus tier will increase by $3, reaching $19.99 per month. Additionally, the Peacock Select tier will now be priced at $8.99, a $1 increase. This marks the second price hike for the service since its inception.

These adjustments follow a significant financial announcement from NBCUniversal, revealing that Peacock recorded its first profitable quarter. This achievement comes after a sustained period of investment and efforts to mitigate initial start-up losses. The company recently underwent a strategic separation from Versant, retaining key assets such as NBC, Bravo, Peacock, and its studios under Comcast, while Versant manages Comcast's cable and digital holdings.

Despite this newfound profitability, NBCUniversal executives have cautioned that Peacock's quarterly financial performance may fluctuate, largely due to the varying schedules of major sports events and other premium content. The platform continues to heavily invest in diverse programming to attract and retain subscribers. This includes high-profile sports broadcasts like Sunday Night Football, NBA, WNBA, Premier League, and college sports. Its entertainment library is also expanding with popular movies such as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and Obsession, alongside scripted series like The Five Star Weekend and reality hits like The Traitors and Love Island USA. In the recent second quarter, Peacock reported a subscriber base of 48 million, an increase from 46 million in the first quarter and 41 million during the same period last year.

The latest price adjustments by Peacock reflect the evolving landscape of the streaming industry. As services mature and aim for sustained profitability, balancing content investment with subscription costs becomes crucial. While achieving its first profitable quarter is a positive sign for Peacock and NBCUniversal, future success will depend on its ability to continue delivering compelling content that justifies these rising prices for its growing subscriber base.
