Paramount+ is expanding its animated content library with a new series centered around the beloved character Garfield. This initiative builds on the success of recent Garfield adaptations, showcasing the platform's strategy to strengthen its offerings for younger audiences. The series will feature a fresh take on the classic character, with a notable voice actor bringing Garfield to life.

Paramount+ Orders New Garfield Animation Series with Lamorne Morris

On March 6, 2026, Paramount+ announced the greenlighting of an untitled animated series starring Garfield. The decision comes after the successful run of 'The Garfield Movie' in 2024 and 'Garfield Originals' in 2021. Esteemed actor Lamorne Morris, known for his roles in 'Saturday Night' and 'Fargo,' will voice the titular character. The production will be handled by Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with Dave H. Johnson and John Trabbic III, co-executive producers of Nickelodeon's 'Middlemost Post,' serving as executive producers. This move is a direct result of Viacom's 2019 acquisition of Paws Inc., which granted Nickelodeon extensive rights to develop Garfield-related animated content, consumer products, and location-based experiences. Fans can already find a variety of Garfield merchandise, including a "Lasagna-Yeah!" shirt, at the Paramount Shop. Despite 'The Garfield Movie' earning a modest $257 million globally, a sequel is already in development, with Chris Pratt returning to voice Garfield. The new series is expected to bolster Paramount+'s robust children's programming, joining popular titles like 'SpongeBob SquarePants' and 'PAW Patrol,' alongside other recently commissioned shows such as 'The Elephant & Piggie Show!' and 'The Pigeon Show! Starring the Pigeon.'

This latest announcement from Paramount+ highlights the enduring appeal of classic characters and the strategic importance of children's content in the competitive streaming landscape. By investing in a new Garfield animated series, the platform not only caters to a dedicated fanbase but also aims to attract new viewers, further solidifying its position in the family entertainment market. The involvement of experienced voice talent and production teams suggests a high-quality endeavor that could redefine Garfield for a new generation, proving that a well-loved character, even one perpetually fond of lasagna and naps, can continue to evolve and capture hearts.
