“Paddington” and “Into the Woods” Dominate 2026 Olivier Awards Nominations

The 2026 Olivier Awards, presented in partnership with Cunard, revealed their nominees on Thursday, with “Paddington the Musical” and “Into The Woods” each receiving a remarkable 11 nominations, positioning them as the leading contenders for British theatre's most esteemed accolades. Following closely behind are three acclaimed plays—the revival of Arthur Miller's “All My Sons,” the original production “Kenrex,” and the Broadway transfer “Stereophonic”—each garnering six nominations.
“Into The Woods,” currently delighting audiences at the Bridge Theatre, earned recognition in key categories including Best Musical Revival, Best Actor in a Musical for Jamie Parker, Best Actress in a Musical for Katie Brayben, and Best Director for Jordan Fein, marking his second consecutive nomination. Meanwhile, “Paddington the Musical,” enchanting crowds at the Savoy Theatre, is vying for Best New Musical. Its co-leads, James Hameed and Arti Shah, share a nomination for Best Actor in a Musical, underscoring the production's strong ensemble performance. The competition for Best New Musical also includes the posthumous Stephen Sondheim work “Here We Are,” “Shucked” from Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, and “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry.”
The acting categories feature a constellation of stars and rising talents. Cate Blanchett, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Julia McDermott, Rosamund Pike, and Rosie Sheehy are nominated for Best Actress. The Best Actor nominees include Bryan Cranston, Sean Hayes, Tom Hiddleston, Jack Holden, and David Shields. Notably, several individuals received multiple nominations across different categories, reflecting their versatile contributions to the theatrical season. Among the musical revival candidates, the Almeida Theatre’s “American Psycho” and Jamie Lloyd’s “Evita” at the London Palladium are strong contenders. The 50th-anniversary Olivier Awards ceremony, hosted by Nick Mohammed, will take place on April 12 at the Royal Albert Hall, promising a night of celebration for the vibrant world of British theatre.
