Former chief creative officer of Pixar, whose principles of storytelling have shaped modern animation.

“The Other Gómez,” a new drama from director Martin Aliaga, is set to feature prominent Latin American actors Alberto Ammann, renowned for his role in “Narcos,” and César Troncoso, celebrated for his work in “The Eternaut.” This project, spearheaded by Ark Entertainment in collaboration with Andaluz Entertainment and Albatroz Media, has earned a coveted spot at the Málaga Festival Fund Co-production Event (MAFF). The film promises a deep exploration of identity and corruption, woven into a pop thriller narrative.

The narrative of "The Other Gómez" revolves around William Puente, an unassuming accountant whose life takes an unexpected turn when he is confused with a notorious lobbyist. This case of mistaken identity forces Puente to inhabit the life of a man he initially fears, leading him to discover the intoxicating allure of influence and power. The story, currently in its advanced development phase, challenges Puente to confront his true self and decide the person he is willing to become amidst this bewildering transformation. The film will be showcased at MAFF, running from March 9-13, highlighting its potential for international appeal.

The screenplay for "The Other Gómez" is a collaborative effort, penned by director Martin Aliaga alongside Marcelo Muller, Gianfranco Quattrini, and Nicolas Gueilburt. Mariana Ricciardi of Ark Entertainment, recognized for her success with the Emmy-nominated series "Impuros" and the box office hit "My Sister and I," is the lead producer. Ricciardi expressed enthusiasm about the cast, noting that Ammann and Troncoso are not only exceptional talents whose global recognition is growing but also integral creative partners in shaping the film's vision. She emphasized that their involvement significantly elevates the project’s international standing, positioning "The Other Gómez" as a 'glocal' endeavor designed to attract global sales agents and Spanish production companies.

Ricciardi further elaborated on the casting, highlighting her previous successful collaborations with Troncoso and her belief that Ammann is the ideal choice for the titular "other" Gómez. She explained that envisioning these actors in their respective roles provides a concrete framework for the film's emotional depth and the central theme of duality. The producer stressed that the film's distinctiveness lies in its ability to reimagine the classic doppelgänger myth as a sharp, humorous pop thriller that scrutinizes the modern human desire for self-reinvention. By portraying corruption as a deeply personal rather than solely institutional issue, the film masterfully intertwines themes of identity, ambition, and artificiality with a unique blend of Latin humor and universal relevance, aiming to elicit both laughter and reflection.

Director Aliaga shared his vision for the film, stating his intention to explore a simple yet profound question: what occurs when an ordinary individual is suddenly granted the opportunity to assume a different identity? He describes the project as a dark comedy thriller rooted in the doppelgänger tradition, where a tangible double compels the protagonist to confront his deepest fears and aspirations. Even in its current developmental stage, Aliaga envisions a visually striking film characterized by symmetry and duality, constantly playing with notions of deception and shifting identities. He also highlighted the importance of having two actors who can effectively portray the tension between an ordinary man and his more captivating, dangerous counterpart, believing Ammann and Troncoso bring the necessary emotional depth, intelligence, and screen presence to these complex roles. The project has garnered support from various cultural funds, including Argentina’s Incaa Mecenazgo Participación Cultural and Fondo Nacional de Las Artes, the pan-regional fund Ibermedia, Spain’s Fundación Carolina, and Brazil’s Federal Fund.

Ultimately, “The Other Gómez” aims to deliver a compelling narrative that challenges perceptions of self and societal roles. Through a blend of thrilling elements and acerbic humor, the film promises to be a thought-provoking cinematic experience that resonates with a global audience, exploring the universal struggle between authenticity and the allure of a manufactured persona. The combined talents of its cast and crew, coupled with strong international backing, are poised to bring this unique story to life on the big screen.
