Prolific author of horror and suspense, who also writes extensively on the craft of writing and pop culture.

The annual Unforgettable Awards, hosted by Character Media and GoldenTV, recently honored a diverse group of Asian and Pacific Islander talents in the entertainment and cultural sectors. Held at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, the event celebrated influential figures like acclaimed director Chloé Zhao, 'Saturday Night Live' notable Bowen Yang, and the vocal cast of 'KPop Demon Hunters,' Arden Cho and Ji-young Yoo, showcasing their profound impact on the industry.

GoldenTV CEO Takashi Cheng commenced the evening's festivities, preceding the award presentations. Charles Melton, star of 'Beef' season two, presented Zhao with the Global Icon Award, delivering a heartfelt tribute that underscored her critical role as a storyteller. Zhao, expressing deep pride in her Chinese heritage, emphasized the inherent right of every individual to harness creativity for transforming life experiences, viewing it not merely as a profession but as a fundamental birthright. Her acceptance speech resonated with themes of inner divinity and mutual encouragement.

Bowen Yang was recognized with the Actor in Film Award for his performance in 'The Wedding Banquet,' presented by comedian Atsuko Okatsuka. Yang's acceptance speech humorously reflected on the peculiar nature of acting and spoke to the evolving landscape of Asian and Pacific Islander representation, acknowledging the shift from feeling 'too seen, too flattened, too misunderstood' to a hopeful new era of recognition. The Vanguard Award was bestowed upon 'KPop Demon Hunters,' with Yoo and Cho accepting on behalf of the production, highlighting the film's significance as a cultural homage and a celebration of community. Additionally, Daniel Dae Kim received the Actor in Television Award and Park Chan-wook the Director Award, both acknowledging their honors via video messages. The evening also celebrated other talents including Lawrence Shou, Te Ao o Hinepehinga, Lloyd Lee Choi, Leenda Dong, and Jet Tila for their contributions across various categories, interspersed with captivating performances by artists such as Eric Nam, Kevin Li, Peng Peng, and Sinéad Harnett.

This year's Unforgettable Awards not only recognized artistic excellence but also highlighted the power of diverse voices in shaping narratives and inspiring audiences. The event underscored the growing visibility and influence of Asian and Pacific Islander artists, fostering a community that celebrates identity, creativity, and the shared journey of storytelling. The collective achievements honored at the gala serve as a beacon, encouraging future generations to embrace their unique perspectives and contribute to a more inclusive and vibrant entertainment world.
