Nine Minor Annoyances in Crimson Desert That Drive Players Mad

Sid Meier

Pioneering game designer known for the "Civilization" series and his philosophy on game design.

Despite its engaging world and many intriguing elements, Crimson Desert, a massive game, presents a range of minor yet consistently irritating issues that can significantly detract from the overall player experience.

One of the most notable frustrations stems from the game's control scheme, where picking up items often results in an unintended jump, showcasing an inefficient mapping of actions. Furthermore, the fast travel system, rather than providing convenience, adds unnecessary steps by preventing quick teleportation while sprinting or mounted, forcing players through a redundant process. The absence of an option to conceal headgear, even when characters are equipped with visually disruptive helmets, also affects player immersion and personal preference. The narrative experience is further hampered by unskippable cutscenes, turning repeat boss encounters into tedious interruptions, and prolonged, often meaningless dialogue with NPCs who offer little beyond generic responses. Additionally, the need to wear a mask for any form of theft, regardless of witnesses, feels like an arbitrary restriction. Finally, the game's severe lack of effective inventory storage, coupled with a cumbersome management system, forces players to constantly juggle and discard essential items, creating a perpetual sense of inconvenience, a problem that the developers have acknowledged and promised to address in future updates. Even the inability to adopt a pet goat, despite being able to carry them, represents a missed opportunity for whimsical player engagement.

These detailed observations collectively highlight how numerous small design choices, when compounded, can transform an otherwise promising gaming experience into one filled with recurrent annoyances, underscoring the critical importance of user interface, quality of life features, and player agency in modern game development. Addressing these seemingly minor issues could greatly enhance the overall enjoyment and long-term appeal of Crimson Desert, fostering a more seamless and less frustrating journey for players navigating its complex world.
