Pioneering Media Excellence: MBC Group's Stellar Performance
Fiscal Triumph: Unpacking MBC Group's Financial Achievements
In the fiscal year 2025, the Middle East Broadcasting Center (MBC) Group proudly announced a remarkable 28.5% surge in its annual revenue, escalating to an impressive SR 5.4 billion (approximately $1.43 billion). Concurrently, the group's net profit experienced an 8.1% uplift, reaching SR 437.5 million ($116.66 million). This significant financial upswing was predominantly fueled by the exceptional double-digit expansion of its flagship streaming platform, Shahid, underscoring the growing influence of digital media consumption in the region.
Strategic Evolution: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund Takes the Helm
A pivotal moment for MBC Group occurred in September when the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia acquired a controlling stake of 54% in the company, a transaction valued at roughly $2 billion. Waleed Al Ibrahim, the chairman of MBC Group, lauded this acquisition as a transformative event, signaling a stronger alignment with national development goals and securing a stable, long-term ownership structure that is deeply rooted in the Kingdom's extensive economic vision. He also emphasized that the 2025 financial outcomes are a testament to the durability and adaptability of their operational framework, as well as the enduring relevance of their diverse assets across broadcasting, digital interfaces, and content creation.
Broadcast and Commercial Activities: A Mixed Performance Overview
The Broadcasting and Other Commercial Activities (BOCA) division, which stands as MBC's primary revenue generator, recorded revenues of SR2.83 billion ($750 million) in 2025, marking a 16.8% increase year-on-year. However, the net profit for BOCA saw a dip to SR492.9 million ($131 million) from SR533.2 million ($142 million) in 2024. This decrease was partly attributed to write-downs of non-core content and the absence of one-time income sources that were present in the preceding year.
Shahid's Digital Ascendancy: Driving Subscriber Growth and Innovation
Shahid, MBC Group's prominent streaming service, played a crucial role in the group's overall success. In 2025, the platform benefited from strategic initiatives such as a crackdown on password sharing and a landmark content bundling agreement with Netflix. These efforts propelled Shahid to achieve a 28.2% year-on-year revenue increase, reaching SAR 1.38 million ($360,000), supported by substantial, albeit unspecified, subscriber growth across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and international markets, solidifying its position as a digital powerhouse.
Content Production Prowess: MBC Studios' Diverse Offerings
MBC Studios demonstrated remarkable productivity throughout the year, delivering a rich array of scripted and unscripted content. This robust output further enhanced its standing as a leading content producer within the region. A significant portion of its 2025 production slate was created in Saudi Arabia, showcasing local talent and narratives. Notable productions included Arabic adaptations of globally recognized formats such as “The Voice” and “Top Chef,” alongside popular Pan-Arab series like “Aser,” “Al Dariya,” “Trad,” “Aysheen Ma’Ana,” and “Share’ Al A’sha.” MBC also contributed to the critically acclaimed and Oscar-nominated feature film “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” directed by Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania.
Future Trajectory: Navigating Uncertainty with Strategic Vision
Mike Sneesby, CEO of MBC Group, expressed confidence in the company's future, stating that despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainties, the business continues to exhibit the resilience of its operational model. He emphasized the group's disciplined management and selective investment strategy in content and platform development. With strong audience engagement, particularly heading into Ramadan, and a newly integrated operational structure, MBC Group is well-positioned to navigate near-term challenges while consistently delivering long-term value and maintaining its leadership in the dynamic media landscape.
