The report indicates that an impressive 85.8% of developers now utilize AI in their work, a substantial increase from 51% reported just the previous year. Furthermore, a separate survey conducted in July focusing on online game developers in Japan revealed a 100% AI adoption rate.

Benefits and Implementation Strategies of AI in Japan

A more detailed breakdown from the CESA survey shows that 63% of respondents actively engage with generative AI tools daily, while another 22.8% use them on a less frequent basis. The survey, however, did not differentiate between specific AI applications such as code generation, concept art creation, in-game asset development, or text generation. Developers commonly cited enhanced efficiency, reduced costs, and faster development cycles as primary advantages. A similar GDC 2026 survey found that only 36% of North American developers employ AI tools in their professional capacities.
