A Treasured Return: The Disney Afternoon Collection's New Chapter

For those who cherish the golden age of 90s animation, the Disney Afternoon programming block holds a special place. The initial release of The Disney Afternoon Collection in 2017 successfully tapped into this nostalgia, offering a delightful trip down memory lane. Now, fans are invited to revisit those cherished memories as an updated version of the collection is set to launch, enriched with two exciting new additions to its game roster.

Launch Details and Platform Exclusivity

Scheduled for release on February 26, the revamped Disney Afternoon Collection will be exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. While digital downloads provide convenience, physical copies will also be available, catering to collectors who prefer tangible media. This new edition not only includes all the games from its predecessor but also introduces two fresh titles, significantly expanding the collection's appeal.

Introducing 'Goof Troop': A Legacy of Gaming Excellence

Among the new additions is the 1993 Super Nintendo classic, 'Goof Troop'. This inclusion is particularly noteworthy, not just for the game's connection to an excellent animated series and film, but for its significant design pedigree. Co-designed by Shinji Mikami, a legendary figure in the gaming industry known for directing the original 'Resident Evil' and founding Tango Gameworks, 'Goof Troop' carries a rich legacy that elevates its presence in the collection.

Discovering 'Bonkers': A Unique Animated Crossover

The second new game joining the collection is 'Bonkers', a Super Nintendo title from 1994. Based on the animated series about a feline police officer, this game offers a different flavor of Disney Afternoon nostalgia. While it may not share the same high-profile design history as 'Goof Troop', 'Bonkers' provides a unique glimpse into a less conventional Disney franchise, offering another layer of retro gaming fun.

The Complete Roster: A Comprehensive Overview

This expanded collection boasts an impressive lineup of classic titles. Alongside the new additions, 'Goof Troop' (SNES) and 'Bonkers' (SNES), players can enjoy fan favorites such as 'DuckTales' (NES), 'DuckTales 2' (NES), 'Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers' (NES), 'Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2' (NES), 'TaleSpin' (NES), and 'Darkwing Duck' (NES). This comprehensive package offers hours of entertainment for both newcomers and returning fans.

Modern Enhancements for Classic Gameplay

While preserving the original artwork and control schemes, the collection introduces several modern conveniences to enhance the gaming experience. Features like save states and a rewind option are available for all games, allowing for more forgiving gameplay. Additionally, players can access archival Disney content, a music player, and an image gallery. The original six NES titles also include speed-running modes and online leaderboards, adding a competitive edge.

Exclusive Physical Edition Goodies

For those opting for the physical edition, launching in May, a delightful assortment of extra goodies awaits. Beyond the game cartridge, buyers will find sticker sheets, postcards, milk caps, and a reversible cover. This thoughtful inclusion of retro-inspired memorabilia adds an extra layer of charm, perfect for fans who appreciate the tangible aspects of their beloved games, and offers a fun throwback to the 90s for those who remember Pogs.
