Recent online speculation concerning Jim Carrey's appearance at the César Awards, including claims of an impersonator delivering his French speech, has been officially dismissed by the awards' organizers. They emphasized Carrey's extensive preparation, revealing he dedicated months to mastering his French delivery, underscoring the authenticity and personal significance of his participation. This clarification aims to dispel the unsubstantiated rumors that gained traction on social media.

Jim Carrey's attendance at the February 26 ceremony in Paris, where he was honored with a prestigious César Award, became the subject of various conspiracy theories. These theories suggested that the celebrated actor was not genuinely present, or that his heartfelt French speech was delivered by an impersonator. This speculation was fueled, in part, by a drag artist's social media post showcasing prosthetics and a wig designed to replicate Carrey's appearance, implying a possible stand-in. However, the César Awards committee has come forward to explicitly debunk these claims, providing detailed accounts of Carrey's involvement.

Gregory Caulier, the general delegate of the César Awards, publicly addressed these rumors, labeling them a "non-issue." He highlighted that Carrey's participation was a thoroughly planned event, with discussions initiated as early as the previous summer. Caulier confirmed that Carrey was deeply moved by the invitation from the Academy and committed significant effort to prepare for his moment on stage. This preparation included several months of intensive study to deliver his entire acceptance speech in French, with Carrey even consulting on specific pronunciations to ensure accuracy and respect for the language.

Furthermore, Caulier underscored the personal nature of Carrey's visit, noting that he was accompanied by his partner, daughter, grandson, and a group of close friends and family, totaling twelve individuals. His long-term publicist also attended. A poignant reunion with his frequent collaborator, director Michel Gondry, added to the authenticity of the occasion. Caulier praised Carrey's "generosity, kindness, benevolence, and elegance" throughout his visit, emphasizing the profound impact he had on the French cinema community. Carrey's dedication resonated deeply with the audience, particularly his emotional delivery in French and his revelation of French ancestral roots, tracing back to his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Marc-François Carré, born in Saint Malo. He also movingly paid tribute to his father, Percy Joseph Carrey, crediting him as the funniest man he ever knew and a source of lessons in love, generosity, and laughter. The ceremony also featured tributes from French stars, including host Benjamin Lavernhe, who performed a "The Mask" spoof, further cementing Carrey's celebrated status.

The César Awards organization firmly dispelled the online fabrications, stressing Jim Carrey's genuine engagement and meticulous preparation for his appearance. His deep personal connection, linguistic efforts, and the warm reception from his family and French cinema peers all attest to a truly authentic and memorable honorary recognition.
