The Critics Choice Association (CCA) is venturing into the realm of digital content with the introduction of its inaugural Creator Awards in 2027. This initiative marks a significant expansion for the organization, aiming to honor the most innovative and impactful creators across various digital platforms, from podcasts to micro-dramas and a diverse range of digital series. The establishment of these awards reflects the evolving landscape of entertainment, acknowledging the growing influence and artistry within the digital space.

The new Critics Choice Creator Awards are designed to spotlight exceptional talent in digital content creation. The nominations for the first ceremony are anticipated on March 18, 2027, with the final winners to be unveiled approximately a month later, on April 15. The awards will encompass a broad spectrum of categories, including scripted and unscripted series, documentaries, informational content, lifestyle programs, sports shows, and gaming series. This comprehensive approach ensures that a wide array of digital creative endeavors will be recognized.

The ceremony is poised to gather prominent figures from the creator community, ranging from well-established personalities like MrBeast, Dhar Mann, and Rhett and Link, to emerging talents such as Nicky Campbell, Grace Reiter, and Eric Sedeño, all of whom have previously been featured in significant industry recognition. Additionally, leading podcasters, including Jay Shetty, Steven Bartlett, and Amy Poehler, who previously received an inaugural podcast award at a major ceremony, will also be celebrated. The awards will also acknowledge innovative formats like TikTok micro-dramas, exemplified by Issa Rae's 'Screen Time'.

According to Joey Berlin, President of the CCA, the organization's move into recognizing digital creators is a direct response to the shifting entertainment consumption patterns. As content increasingly moves towards social media and streaming platforms, it becomes crucial for entertainment critics to adapt and highlight quality content in these new arenas. The CCA is dedicated to guiding consumers toward valuable entertainment and ensuring that top creators receive the recognition they deserve.

This new awards program will complement the CCA's existing portfolio, which includes the renowned Critics Choice Awards, Critics Choice Documentary Awards, Critics Choice Real TV Awards, and Critics Choice Super Awards. The association also hosts several 'Celebration' events designed to honor diverse and historically underrepresented communities within the entertainment industry, such as celebrations for Black Cinema and Television, Latino Cinema and Television, AAPI Cinema and Television, and LGBTQ+ Cinema and Television.

The detailed categories for the Critics Choice Creator Awards span a variety of content types. General awards will recognize the Creator of the Year, Best Live Streaming Creator, Best Video Edit, Best Viral Video, and Best Special Effects. Podcast categories include Best Audio Podcast, Best Video Podcast, and Best Podcast Host. Genre-specific awards will be given for Best Comedy Creator, Best Drama Creator, Best Storyteller, and Best News Reporter.

Scripted series will feature categories such as Best Comedy Series (Short Form and Long Form), Best Micro-Drama Series (Short Form and Long Form), and individual acting awards for Best Actor and Actress in both comedy and micro-drama series. Unscripted and reality content will be honored with awards for Best Competition Series, Best Competition Series: Talent/Variety, Best Structured Series, and Best Series Host.

Documentary and informational content will see awards for Best Documentary Series and Creator, Best Educational Series and Creator, Best Business Series and Creator, Best Crime/Justice Series and Creator, Best Animal/Nature Series and Creator, and Best Health/Wellness Series and Creator. Lifestyle and interest content categories will include Best Food & Drink Series and Creator, Best Travel/Adventure Series and Creator, Best Relationship Series and Creator, Best Lifestyle Series and Creator for Home/Garden, Best Lifestyle Series and Creator for Fashion/Beauty, and Best Pop Culture Series and Creator. Additionally, there will be awards for Games, recognizing Best Game Show and Best Game Show Creator, and for Sports, including Best Sports Show: Talk/Analysis and Best Sports Series.

The Critics Choice Association's new Creator Awards initiative signifies a forward-thinking step in acknowledging the dynamic and diverse landscape of modern entertainment. By recognizing achievements across an extensive range of digital content, the CCA aims to highlight innovation and excellence, providing a platform for both established and emerging talents in the digital creator community. This expansion reinforces the organization's commitment to adapting with the evolving industry and celebrating all forms of impactful storytelling.
