Shonda Rhimes

Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Renowned actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has been confirmed as the lead in the new psychological thriller, 'Cupid,' under the direction of Tate Taylor, known for 'The Help' and 'The Girl on the Train.' In this intriguing role, Zeta-Jones will embody a unique marriage therapist whose unorthodox and increasingly dangerous techniques challenge a couple on the brink of separation. The narrative unfolds over a single weekend, as the desperate couple seeks to mend their fractured relationship at the counselor's secluded home, only to find themselves ensnared in a progressively menacing and hazardous ordeal.

The film's production is slated to commence in late summer or early autumn of 2026, with the picturesque locale of Natchez, Mississippi, serving as the primary filming backdrop. Tate Taylor will not only direct but also produce the movie alongside John Norris and Ryan Donnell Smith. The screenplay, penned by the Van Dyke brothers, who previously contributed to 'Don't Worry Darling,' promises a compelling and suspenseful story. Director Taylor expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the film will make audiences reconsider seeking relationship counseling, given the intense and perilous journey it depicts, and praised Zeta-Jones as the ideal artist to bring this distinctive thriller to life.

International distribution for 'Cupid' will be managed by Upgrade, which plans to introduce the project to potential buyers at the European Film Market in Berlin. Meanwhile, CAA Media Finance, instrumental in securing the project's financing, will oversee the rights within the United States. This collaboration of talent and production houses highlights the film's potential to be a significant addition to the psychological thriller genre, offering audiences a thrilling and thought-provoking cinematic experience that delves into the darker side of human relationships and therapeutic interventions.

The announcement of this film serves as a compelling reminder of the power of storytelling to explore complex human emotions and societal norms. It underscores the continuous evolution of cinema, pushing boundaries and challenging perceptions. Through creative collaboration and dedication, the entertainment industry brings forth narratives that entertain, provoke thought, and inspire. This project exemplifies the enduring spirit of artistic endeavor, uniting visionary filmmakers and talented performers to create impactful works that resonate with global audiences.
