The announcement from Cannes lauded Streisand as an "iconic artist" and a living embodiment of the "American dream in all its original splendor." Despite never having a film screened at the festival previously, she is set to make her inaugural appearance on the Croisette stage on May 23rd to accept this esteemed award during the closing ceremony. Streisand expressed her profound gratitude and humility at joining the ranks of past honorary Palme d'Or recipients, citing their work as a consistent source of inspiration.

Throughout her illustrious career, Streisand has garnered numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards – one for Best Actress in 1968 for her role in 'Funny Girl' and another for Best Original Song in 1976 for "Evergreen" from 'A Star is Born,' marking a historic first for a female songwriter. Her trophy cabinet also boasts eleven Golden Globe Awards, notably a Best Director win for 'Yentl' in 1983, making her the first woman to achieve this honor. The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival is scheduled to take place from May 12th to May 23rd. The official selection of films for the festival will be unveiled on April 9th.
