A new Brazilian drama, “Diamonds Are Forever,” is gaining significant attention with the addition of acclaimed screenwriters Camila Agustini and Elton de Almeida. This film delves into themes of identity, family, and acceptance through a compelling narrative.

"Diamonds Are Forever": Unearthing Identity, Forging Bonds

Award-Winning Writers Join Creative Team

Camila Agustini, celebrated for her contributions to the critically acclaimed Brazilian film “Manas,” and Elton de Almeida, known for his writing on popular Netflix Brazil productions such as “Samantha!” and “Lov3,” are now collaborating on the screenplay for “Diamonds Are Forever.” Their involvement brings a wealth of experience and narrative depth to the project.

The Intriguing Premise of “Diamonds Are Forever”

Directed by Pedro Jorge, whose previous works include the Globoplay series “The Day My Life Changed,” “Diamonds Are Forever” centers on Emilio. Emilio is a 24-year-old gay man who leads a dual life: he trains as a boxer by day and transforms into the dazzling drag queen Sahara Diamante by night. His world shifts when he discovers his long-lost father, Cezão, is alive. Emilio discreetly joins his father's boxing gym, concealing his true identity. Despite Cezão's conservative views and homophobia, he recognizes Emilio's natural talent for boxing, leading to an unlikely bond that blossoms amidst their differences.

Accolades and International Recognition

Produced by Heverton Lima of Paideia Filmes, the film garnered considerable praise and two awards at the 2025 Guadalajara Co-Production Meetings. It also received an invitation to the Málaga Festival Fund and Co-Production Event (MAFF) through Brasil CineMundi, highlighting its international appeal and potential.

Director's Vision: Blending Worlds of Strength and Vulnerability

Pedro Jorge, the director, shared his artistic vision, stating that “Diamonds Are Forever” investigates concepts of masculinity, desire, and self-discovery through a young man's quest for paternal acceptance. The film masterfully unites the seemingly disparate worlds of boxing and drag performance, revealing their underlying commonalities in strength and survival. This fusion of physical intensity and emotional honesty creates a unique cinematic language rooted in human experience.

From Short Film to Feature-Length Drama

The feature film is an expansion of Jorge's successful 2016 short film of the same name. The short film was showcased at over 70 national and international festivals, accumulating 25 awards, including best film and the prestigious Canal Brasil Award at the Recife Cinema Festival (Cine PE).

Bolstering the Project with Esteemed Talent

The project's strength is significantly enhanced by the contributions of Agustini and de Almeida. Agustini's prior work on “Manas,” which was executive produced by film luminaries such as Walter Salles, the Dardenne brothers, and Sean Penn, was a strong contender for Brazil's international feature Oscar submission. KimStim, based in Brooklyn, handled the film's distribution in the United States.

Forging International Co-Production Partnerships

During its presentation in Malaga, the producers aimed to broaden the film's international co-production network. Currently structured as a Brazil-Chile-Uruguay co-production with approximately 45% of its budget secured, Paideia Filmes is actively seeking European co-producers and engaging with international sales agents and distributors to finalize the film's financing.
