The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has recently committed a substantial investment of Dh22.6 billion ($6.2 billion) to proceed with the development of the Umm Shaif Gas Cap in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE). This strategic move involves key international collaborators, including TotalEnergies, Eni, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), underscoring a global effort to meet escalating natural gas demands.

Propelling Energy Independence: ADNOC's Vision for a Gas-Powered Future

Strategic Investment and Global Collaboration Drive Umm Shaif Gas Cap Development

ADNOC has formalized a significant financial commitment of Dh22.6 billion ($6.2 billion) for the advancement of the Umm Shaif Gas Cap project located in Abu Dhabi. This ambitious undertaking is bolstered by the involvement of prominent international energy entities: TotalEnergies, Eni, and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), highlighting a collaborative approach to strengthening global energy supplies.

Boosting Natural Gas Output to Meet Surging Global Demand

This development forms a crucial component of ADNOC's overarching strategy to enhance the availability of natural gas, responding to a growing worldwide appetite for this energy source. The Umm Shaif project is projected to yield in excess of 600 million standard cubic feet of natural gas and associated gas liquids daily, marking a significant increase in production capacity.

Substantial Contribution to UAE's Energy Landscape by 2030

The anticipated output from the Umm Shaif development is expected to fulfill nearly 10% of the UAE's current daily gas consumption. Production is slated to commence by the year 2030, positioning the project as a vital contributor to the nation's energy security and economic growth.

Massive Infrastructure Contracts Awarded for Offshore Expansion

To facilitate this extensive project, three engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts totaling Dh18.8 billion have been granted for the construction of essential offshore infrastructure. These contracts were awarded to a consortium of major UAE and international contractors, signaling a robust partnership to realize the project's complex engineering demands.

Extensive Drilling Program Underpins Production Targets

Further bolstering the development, a Dh1.3 billion drilling program is set to be executed by ADNOC Drilling. This program encompasses the drilling of 14 wells over an 18-month period, utilizing three state-of-the-art rigs, demonstrating the scale and precision required for such a large-scale extraction operation.

Unlocking UAE's Vast Gas Reserves for Domestic and International Markets

Recognizing the UAE's standing as the holder of the world's seventh-largest gas reserves, ADNOC is actively working to harness more of these resources. This effort aims not only to satisfy domestic and international energy requirements but also to bolster the expansion of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) business, reinforcing the UAE's role as a key global energy provider.

Driving Integrated Gas Strategy and Global LNG Ambitions

Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, and ADNOC managing director and group CEO, emphasized that this decision is a pivotal step in ADNOC's integrated gas strategy. He highlighted the commitment to leveraging the UAE's extensive gas reserves and expanding its global LNG footprint to meet the rising demand for natural gas. The Umm Shaif Gas Cap FID solidifies ADNOC's position as a reliable gas supplier, promising long-term value for the UAE and its international clientele.

Furthering Gas Production with Bab Gas Cap Concession Approval

This FID follows the Supreme Council for Financial and Economic Affairs' endorsement of the Bab Gas Cap concession. This additional initiative is designed to unlock an impressive 1.5 billion standard cubic feet per day of natural gas and related commodities, further enhancing the UAE's energy supply capabilities.

Establishing a Robust Global LNG Trading Hub

ADNOC recently inaugurated a global LNG marketing and trading platform within the Abu Dhabi Global Market. This platform targets a capacity of 47 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2035, signifying a bold move to become a dominant player in the international LNG market.

Securing Long-Term LNG Supply Agreements

In a recent development, ADNOC finalized a 15-year sales and purchase agreement to supply 1mtpa of LNG to Inpex from the Ruwais LNG project. This agreement underscores ADNOC's commitment to securing long-term partnerships and solidifying its presence in the global LNG trade.
