This aftermarket upgrade, developed by a California-based tuner, offers significant improvements in both form and function, providing Tesla owners with a distinct alternative to the brand's Full Self-Driving software.

A Visual Transformation for the High-Performing Tesla Model Y

The latest iteration of the Tesla Model Y Performance, introduced in late August, is renowned for its rapid acceleration, achieving 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.3 seconds. While its factory performance enhancements, such as larger wheels and a carbon spoiler, are subtle, they don't fully convey the vehicle's underlying power. Unplugged Performance, a tuning specialist founded in 2013, recognized this gap and has launched an aerodynamic kit specifically for the Model Y's top-tier variant, bringing a more aggressive and high-speed aesthetic to the electric crossover.

Aerodynamic Excellence: Enhancing Stability and Reducing Resistance

Unplugged Performance's new aero kit boasts a 2.4% reduction in aerodynamic drag, a key factor in improving vehicle efficiency and speed. Concurrently, the kit increases net downforce, which translates to superior grip and enhanced stability, particularly noticeable at higher highway speeds. This blend of reduced drag and increased downforce contributes to a more controlled and confident driving experience, ensuring the vehicle not only looks faster but also performs with greater precision.

Comprehensive Aero Components for Optimal Performance

The Model Y Performance Aero Kit comprises five distinct elements, each engineered to contribute to the vehicle's improved aerodynamics. These include a front lip splitter, designed to manage airflow under the vehicle; front aero canards, which optimize airflow around the bumper corners for better turn-in response and side stability; high-efficiency rear fins; a high-efficiency rear diffuser extension; and a high-efficiency trunk spoiler, crucial for stabilizing the crossover's rear at elevated velocities. These components can be acquired individually or as a complete ensemble, allowing for flexible customization.

Pricing and Additional Customization Options

The complete aerodynamic kit from Unplugged Performance is priced at $2,195, with an option to add satin or gloss mirror covers for an additional $400. Individual components are available at varying costs, from $295 for the rear fins to $475 for the front splitter. Beyond the aero kit, Unplugged Performance also offers a diverse selection of forged Y-spoke wheels, ranging from 18 to 21 inches in diameter and available in multiple finishes, with prices between $3,595 and $5,595. These wheels further enhance both the visual appeal and handling of the Model Y.

A significant point of consideration for Tesla Model Y owners is the similar price point of the full aero kit coupled with premium wheels and Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system, both hovering around the $8,000 mark.
