“Saturday Night Live” is set to conclude its 51st season with a spectacular lineup of talent in May. The iconic sketch comedy show has revealed that pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo will undertake a double duty as both host and musical guest. Additionally, renowned actors Matt Damon and Will Ferrell will take on hosting responsibilities, with musical performances by Noah Kahan and the legendary Paul McCartney, promising an unforgettable series of episodes to cap off the season.

Star-studded Final Episodes of "Saturday Night Live" Season 51 Unveiled

In a highly anticipated announcement on April 8, 2026, “Saturday Night Live” officially confirmed the hosts and musical guests for its final three episodes of Season 51. The May 2nd episode will feature Olivia Rodrigo in an extraordinary dual role as both the charismatic host and the captivating musical guest. This marks Rodrigo’s inaugural hosting appearance, though she has previously graced the “SNL” stage as a musical guest in 2021 and 2023. Her performance is strategically timed ahead of the June 12th release of her eagerly awaited third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” following the successes of her 2021 album “Sour” and 2023’s “Guts.”

Following Rodrigo, the May 9th episode will welcome back Academy Award-winning actor Matt Damon as host, a role he has previously undertaken twice in 2002 and 2018, even earning an Emmy nomination for his 2018 turn. Damon, celebrated for his roles in cinematic masterpieces like “Good Will Hunting” and “The Bourne Identity” series, will be promoting his upcoming film, Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” slated for release on July 17th. Accompanying Damon will be Noah Kahan, making his second appearance as a musical guest on “SNL,” with his performance scheduled shortly after the April 24th launch of his fourth album, “The Great Divide.”

The grand finale of Season 51 on May 16th will be helmed by the comedic brilliance of Will Ferrell, an esteemed “SNL” alumnus who was a cast member for seven seasons from 1995 to 2002. This will be Ferrell’s sixth time hosting the show, adding another milestone to his illustrious career which includes beloved comedies such as “Elf” and “Anchorman.” The season will culminate with a musical performance by the incomparable Sir Paul McCartney, ensuring a truly iconic end to the series. Ferrell is also currently involved in the Netflix comedy series “The Hawk,” which he created and stars in.

This impressive lineup not only underscores “Saturday Night Live”'s enduring appeal but also its commitment to featuring a diverse array of top-tier talent. The blend of fresh and seasoned performers, from a chart-topping pop star to Hollywood stalwarts and a music legend, promises to deliver a captivating and memorable close to the 51st season, reaffirming its status as a cultural institution.

The announcement of such a dynamic and star-studded lineup for the season's closing episodes provides a fascinating glimpse into the strategic choices made by a show as iconic as “Saturday Night Live.” It highlights the careful balance between leveraging established, beloved figures like Matt Damon, Will Ferrell, and Paul McCartney—who bring with them a proven track record and a loyal audience—and introducing fresh, contemporary talents such as Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan, who resonate with newer generations. This blend is crucial for maintaining relevance and broad appeal in an ever-evolving entertainment landscape. For viewers, it's an exciting promise of diverse comedic and musical experiences. For the industry, it's a testament to SNL's continued ability to attract and showcase the biggest names in entertainment, solidifying its place as a pivotal platform for cultural moments. The decision to feature Rodrigo in a double role, especially coinciding with her album release, also speaks to the show's adaptability in integrating promotional opportunities while delivering high-quality content. Ultimately, it reminds us that blending tradition with innovation is key to sustained success in television.
