Prolific television creator ("Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal") and author on creativity and empowerment.

Parallax Films, an international sales company specializing in Sinophone and high-quality Asian cinema, has officially acquired the global sales rights for 'Aman'. This poignant short film, directed by Rahul Roye, delves into the emotional complexities faced by a transgender man who learns of his pregnancy shortly before his scheduled gender-affirming surgery. The film's compelling narrative is poised to captivate audiences worldwide, initiating its festival run with a premiere in the Short Cuts competition at the Toronto Film Festival, followed by its European premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.

Liuying Cao, the founder of Parallax Films, articulated the company's enthusiasm for 'Aman,' describing it as an ambitious yet deeply human film. Cao emphasized that the film sensitively explores the intimate personal experiences of an individual, while also addressing the broader social and political implications of those experiences. She lauded the film's ability to convey profound emotion through raw, embodied pain rather than overt political statements, expressing particular excitement about collaborating with such a moving queer film originating from India.

This 16-minute production, a collaborative effort between the U.K., U.S., India, and France, is presented in both Hindi and Bengali. The project boasts executive producers Nikkhil Advani and Dominique Welinski, with Apoorva Bakshi of Awedacious Originals, Elle León Nostas of Aymara Films, Neeraj Churi of Lotus Visual Productions, and Tushar Tyagi and Abid Aziz Merchant serving as producers. The producers collectively expressed their confidence in Parallax Films, recognizing their blend of global sales acumen and a bespoke approach to each film. They were particularly drawn to Parallax’s sensitivity and precision in handling 'Aman's' delicate themes, ensuring its unique qualities are preserved while strategically positioning it for international recognition. The cast features transgender activist Kabir Maan in his debut lead role, alongside Sirat Taneja, Guntaj Deep Singh, and Satakshi Nandy.

In a world striving for greater understanding and acceptance, films like 'Aman' play a crucial role in fostering empathy and challenging conventional narratives. By presenting a transgender man's unexpected journey through pregnancy, the film boldly questions societal definitions of gender and identity. It serves as a powerful reminder that human experiences, in all their diversity, are deeply personal and deserve to be explored with nuance and compassion. This cinematic endeavor encourages audiences to look beyond preconceived notions and embrace the spectrum of human existence, promoting a more inclusive and understanding global community.
