Paddington Bear to Present Award at BAFTA Film Awards
Guillermo del ToroOscar-winning filmmaker and author whose work and commentary explore fantasy, horror, and cinema.
The upcoming BAFTA Film Awards are poised to welcome an unexpected yet utterly charming presenter: Paddington Bear. This iconic character, currently delighting audiences in “Paddington the Musical” on the West End stage, has been officially confirmed to present the prestigious award for Best Children's and Family Film. His inclusion promises to inject a unique and heartwarming element into the ceremony, marking a memorable occasion for the esteemed awards.
This appearance by the famous bear represents a charming deviation from tradition, as it is believed to be the first time a non-human, four-legged member of the ursine family has taken on presenting duties at the BAFTAs. Paddington will share the stage with a constellation of renowned human talent, including Bryan Cranston, Cillian Murphy, Alicia Vikander, Ethan Hawke, Glenn Close, and Kate Hudson, among many other distinguished personalities from the film industry. The event will also feature the first international performance of “Golden” from the animated hit “Kpop Demon Hunters,” as well as a tribute by Jessie Ware during the In Memoriam segment. The ceremony, hosted by Alan Cumming, is scheduled to unfold on February 22 at London’s Royal Festival Hall.
The BAFTA Film Awards, through such delightful inclusions and a star-studded lineup, continue to celebrate cinematic excellence while embracing innovation and broadening their appeal. This year’s event highlights the power of storytelling and performance, whether from human artists or beloved fictional characters, to bring joy and recognition to outstanding achievements in film. It underscores the idea that passion and creativity can unite diverse audiences, creating moments of shared happiness and appreciation for the arts.
