Celebrating a Canadian Icon: Mike Myers Honored at Screen Awards

A Star's Homecoming: Mike Myers to Be Recognized

Mike Myers, the versatile Canadian entertainer globally recognized for characters such as Wayne Campbell, Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, and Shrek, is set to receive a special accolade at the Canadian Screen Awards this May. The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television announced that Myers will be presented with the esteemed Icon Award, acknowledging his significant contributions to film and television.

Championing Canadian Identity: A Statement of Pride

Despite holding U.S. citizenship, Myers has consistently demonstrated strong ties to his Canadian heritage. In April 2025, he notably appeared alongside Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney in a television commercial. During this appearance, Myers wore a jersey emblazoned with "Never 51," a direct and spirited retort to comments made by former U.S. president Donald Trump concerning Canada's sovereignty. He further reinforced this stance by sporting a "Canada is not for sale" T-shirt on the popular NBC sketch comedy show, Saturday Night Live, where he was once a prominent cast member.

Honoring Excellence: Other Distinguished Award Recipients

Beyond Myers, several other notable figures are slated to receive special honors. The Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism will be presented to Hazel Mae, a highly respected Canadian sportscaster. Maxine bailey, the executive director of Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Centre, will be recognized with the Changemaker Award. Additionally, the independent film Mile End Kicks, directed by Chandler Levack, is set to receive the Sustainable Production Award, highlighting its commitment to environmentally conscious filmmaking practices.

The Grand Celebration: Canadian Screen Awards Gala

The honorary awards will be conferred during the Canadian Screen Awards, culminating in a live gala ceremony scheduled for May 31. This year marks a significant milestone as the Academy, which oversees these national film and television awards, has secured an agreement with a consortium of Canadian broadcasters. This partnership ensures that the final prize-giving for the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards will be simultaneously broadcast live from Toronto, allowing a broader audience to partake in the celebration of Canadian talent.

An Evening of Laughter and Recognition: The Host and Nominations

The 14th edition of the Canadian Screen Awards will be hosted by the acclaimed actor and comedian Andrew Phung, known for his engaging stage presence and comedic timing. The nominations for this year's Canadian awards show are eagerly anticipated and will be officially unveiled on March 25, setting the stage for an exciting season of recognition and celebration for the Canadian entertainment industr
