Author and journalist whose work on culture, race, and history includes writing for Marvel's "Black Panther."

Matt Dillon is confirmed to portray the central figure, Chris Adams, in the upcoming television rendition of "The Magnificent Seven" on MGM+. This announcement follows the official commissioning of the series in December. Dillon will step into a role famously originated by Yul Brynner in the 1960 cinematic version, embodying a character known for his calm demeanor, moral conviction, and an aversion to hypocrisy and cruelty, grounded in principles of fairness and moderation.

Michael Wright, the global head of MGM+, expressed his enthusiasm for Dillon's involvement, highlighting the actor's capacity to infuse complex, ethically challenged characters with profound emotional weight. Wright stated that Dillon is an ideal choice to helm the reimagining of "The Magnificent Seven," which aims to honor the original film's enduring legacy while delving into universal themes of bravery, atonement, and resistance against oppression. His performance is anticipated to be central to the series' narrative.

This venture marks one of Dillon's infrequent appearances in television, with his previous small-screen credits including the Apple TV series "High Desert" and Fox's supernatural drama "Wayward Pines." He is predominantly recognized for his extensive film career, which features an Oscar-nominated performance in the 2006 movie "Crash," along with roles in films such as "The House That Jack Built," "Wild Things," "There's Something About Mary," "The Outsiders," and "Asteroid City." The production is slated to commence in June 2026, overseen by writer Tim Kring, who will also serve as executive producer alongside Donald De Line, Lawrence Mirisch, and Bruce Kaufman. Dillon will also take on an executive producer role.

The upcoming "Magnificent Seven" series invites viewers to reflect on the nature of justice and the complex moral dilemmas faced when peace must be defended through force. It encourages a deeper understanding of courage and commitment, inspiring us to champion what is right, even when the path is fraught with challenges and ethical ambiguities.
