Kanye West Allegedly Dozes Off During Malibu Mansion Trial Testimony

Kanye West, known artistically as Ye, reportedly faced difficulties staying alert while on the witness stand in a Los Angeles court. The legal proceedings revolved around a dispute concerning his former Malibu residence. Observers noted that the multi-talented artist, renowned for his music, production, and design work, frequently yawned and appeared to drift off, with his head occasionally slumping forward during his testimony.

During the second week of the trial, Ye's behavior prompted concern, particularly when he responded with an unspecific "I don't recall" to questions regarding the construction work on the property. This mansion, acquired for $57 million in 2021, was originally designed by the acclaimed Japanese architect Tadao Ando. Ye's ambitious plans to transform it into a self-sufficient, "off-the-grid" dwelling led to its extensive modification, ultimately leaving it in a state described as a "concrete shell" without windows, doors, electricity, or plumbing. The property was later sold at a significant loss in 2024 for $21 million.

The plaintiff's attorney reportedly queried whether Ye was asleep, a remark noted by the presiding judge. The judge then urged the attorney to expedite the questioning process. This trial is one of several legal challenges Ye is anticipated to face. At its core, the lawsuit addresses allegations made by contractor Tony Saxon, who claims he is owed unpaid wages, endured hazardous working conditions, and was unjustly terminated. Saxon asserts that he was compelled to reside in the mansion to oversee Ye's unconventional design aspirations and suffered an injury during the failed renovation, for which he seeks compensation for medical expenses.

The extensive and ultimately unsuccessful renovation included unique demands, such as replacing a traditional staircase with a slide. The property's current state underscores the ambitious yet unrealized vision Ye had for the estate. The legal battle continues to unfold, shedding light on the complexities and challenges encountered during the project.

The musician's courtroom demeanor captured attention, highlighting the intense scrutiny surrounding the legal dispute over his former residence. The contractor's claims detail a contentious period of employment, marked by unusual project requirements and alleged breaches of labor laws. This case offers a glimpse into the personal and professional challenges faced by the public figure, as he navigates the intricacies of the American legal system while defending his actions and artistic vision.
