Highguard's 5v5 Mode Becomes Permanent Due to Player Demand

Roberta Williams

Pioneer of graphic adventure games, co-founder of Sierra On-Line, and creator of "King's Quest."

Wildlight Entertainment has responded to its player base by making the recently introduced 5v5 game mode in Highguard a permanent fixture. This decision comes shortly after a compelling argument was made by Polygon's Claire Lewis for the mode's permanence, reflecting a widespread sentiment among the game's community.

The developers noted a significant and enthusiastic embrace of the 5v5 format by players over the past weekend, with feedback indicating a strong preference for this larger team dynamic. Community members, particularly on platforms like Reddit, lauded the 5v5 experience as a substantial enhancement, praising Wildlight Entertainment's prompt response to player feedback and their commitment to adapting the game based on community input.

Despite an initial surge of nearly 100,000 concurrent players at launch, Highguard saw a decline in numbers, settling around 8,000 daily active players on Steam. This permanent addition of the 5v5 mode is a strategic move to potentially re-engage players who may have been critical of the original 3v3 mode and to attract new users seeking a different gameplay experience.

This swift and positive response from Wildlight Entertainment highlights the importance of listening to player feedback in the evolving landscape of online gaming. By integrating community-driven changes, developers can foster a more engaged and satisfied player base, ultimately contributing to the longevity and success of their titles. This adaptability demonstrates a commendable dedication to player enjoyment and game refinement.
