Highguard Introduces New Shapeshifting Hero, Wolf Mount, and Ranked Play

A substantial new release for the game Highguard is slated for tomorrow on the Steam platform. This update promises to introduce a fresh playable character, an expansive new arena, a unique riding creature, and perhaps most notably for enthusiasts of competitive gameplay, the highly anticipated ranked match system. These additions are poised to significantly expand the game's offerings and invigorate the player community.

Introducing Ekon: The Shapeshifting Hero and New Mounts

The upcoming "Highguard Episode 2" introduces Ekon, a hero distinct from his peers with the power to transform into a formidable direwolf. Unlike other characters who summon spectral mounts, Ekon embodies his own rapid traversal, offering players an unparalleled sense of speed and an expanded field of vision in third-person wolf form. His unique combat style involves a swift lunge and bite attack before reverting to human form to complete engagements, and he can even perform an aerial dash for enhanced mobility. Furthermore, Ekon's inherent wolf-like traits extend to his ability to track opponents by scent and utilize his other powers while in his transformed state, providing a comprehensive and dynamic new playstyle that emphasizes tracking, agility, and predatory instincts. This hero's design aims to offer a fresh tactical dimension, allowing players to outmaneuver and surprise adversaries with their enhanced senses and speed.

Beyond Ekon, the update also brings another wolf-themed addition: a new mount accessible to all players at no cost. This universal wolf mount will complement Ekon's unique abilities, further enriching the game's equestrian options. While Ekon's personal transformation offers a direct and aggressive approach, the free wolf mount provides all players with a reliable and thematic mode of transportation across the game's diverse landscapes. This inclusion highlights a recurring thematic element within the update, underscoring the developers' commitment to integrating distinct and engaging features. Exploring Skydrift and the Competitive Ranked Mode

The new map, dubbed "Skydrift," promises a breathtaking aerial battleground set within a legendary lost city. This environment is characterized by a colossal castle perched atop floating landmasses, interconnected by precarious chain bridges and innovative "Sky Jumpers." Players will navigate a world filled with hollowed-out caverns, once the lairs of mighty winged beasts, engage in skirmishes within an ancient stone ring, and traverse vast distances using the Sky Jumpers to reach the palace at Skydrift's zenith, suspended amongst the clouds. This multi-layered map is designed to support both 3v3 and 5v5 game modes, offering diverse tactical opportunities and challenging verticality that will test players' spatial awareness and combat skills. The intricate layout of Skydrift encourages varied strategies, from close-quarters combat in the caverns to long-range engagements across the expansive bridges and elevated platforms, adding significant depth to the game's strategic landscape.

In a major enhancement for competitive players, the update introduces a ranked mode, initially available exclusively for 3v3 matches. The developers at Wildlight believe that the 3v3 format best suits the game's tactical depth, providing a focused environment for competitive play. However, they remain open to player feedback, acknowledging that their stance on game modes can evolve, as demonstrated by previous adjustments to the 5v5 raid. The ranked system features seven tiers, ranging from Bronze to Grandmaster, each subdivided into three divisions, offering a clear progression path for dedicated players. Participants will earn rewards based on their final rank at the conclusion of each seasonal episode, incentivizing continuous engagement and skill improvement. This structured competitive system, combined with regular balance changes and quality-of-life improvements, aims to foster a thriving esports scene and maintain a high level of player investment in Highguard's ongoing evolution.
