Halle Berry Expresses Disappointment Over Storm's Absence in 'Avengers: Doomsday' but Eager for Future MCU Involvement

Former chief creative officer of Pixar, whose principles of storytelling have shaped modern animation.

Halle Berry has openly shared her regret regarding her character, Storm, not being included in the upcoming film "Avengers: Doomsday." Despite this setback, the acclaimed actress conveyed an enthusiastic readiness to rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) should future opportunities arise. Berry holds her previous work within the "X-Men" universe in high regard, emphasizing the significance of these stories for audiences, including her own children.

The announcement came during an interview with ScreenRant while Berry was promoting her latest movie, "Crime 101." She expressed her sentiment, stating, "While I'm sad I won't be in 'Doomsday' this round, there are other rounds. And I would do that in a heartbeat." Her long-standing connection to the character of Storm, whom she has portrayed in multiple "X-Men" films, highlights her attachment and dedication to the role. Berry played the iconic weather-manipulating mutant from 2000 to 2014, appearing in "X-Men," "X2: X-Men United," "X-Men: The Last Stand," and "X-Men: Days of Future Past." She described Storm as a "very special character" to her and feels immensely fortunate to have brought her to life on screen.

Berry also articulated her deep admiration for the "X-Men" narrative, particularly its themes of being mutants and outcasts. She noted her pride in the messages conveyed by these films, considering them important for her children as they grew up. The "X-Men" universe, with its exploration of identity and acceptance, has resonated profoundly with her, making her a staunch advocate for its continued storytelling.

While Storm's presence will be missed in "Avengers: Doomsday," the film is slated to feature a formidable ensemble of characters from both the "X-Men" and broader Marvel universes. This extensive cast includes familiar faces such as Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Kelsey Grammer, and James Marsden from the "X-Men" franchise, alongside MCU mainstays like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Paul Rudd. Notably, Robert Downey Jr. is also set to appear, albeit in a new capacity, taking on the villainous role of Doctor Doom rather than his iconic Tony Stark persona. The film, helmed by seasoned MCU directors Anthony and Joe Russo, is scheduled for release on December 18.

Despite her absence from this particular Marvel installment, Halle Berry's enduring affection for the Storm character and her eagerness to engage in future Marvel projects remain clear. Her contributions to the "X-Men" legacy are significant, and fans can anticipate her potential return to the expansive superhero narrative.
