"Brunello: The Gracious Visionary," a documentary film by Academy Award-winning director Giuseppe Tornatore, has successfully expanded its global reach through a series of international sales agreements. This cinematic portrayal of Brunello Cucinelli, the celebrated Italian fashion designer dubbed the "King of Cashmere," has now secured distribution across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. The film's widespread availability follows its initial successful theatrical run in Italy last year and anticipates its upcoming North American, U.K., and Irish premieres scheduled for July 24th.
The film chronicles Cucinelli's remarkable journey, tracing his origins as a farmer's son to his current status as the creative director and executive chairman of a luxury lifestyle brand valued at over $7.8 billion. This elegant production features Saul Nanni, acclaimed for his role in "Love & Gelato," portraying a young Cucinelli, with an original score composed by Oscar winner Nicola Piovani, known for "Life Is Beautiful." The narrative skillfully blends documentary footage with reenacted sequences, illuminating the philosophical influences, card games, and acts of generosity that shaped Cucinelli's unique perspective. Born in 1953 in the ancient Umbrian village of Castel Rigone, Cucinelli established his company in 1978, achieving prominence by introducing vibrant colors to cashmere, a revolutionary concept at the time.
Filmed in Umbria, the docufilm highlights pivotal moments in Cucinelli's career, underscoring his profound dedication to Italian craftsmanship and his distinctive philosophy of "humanistic capitalism." This ethos dictates that every garment produced by his company is made in Italy, predominantly within his native region. Cucinelli also prioritizes fair wages and a family-like atmosphere for his factory employees, and he has spearheaded the complete restoration of Solomeo, the Italian village that serves as his company's headquarters. Twenty-Nine Palms Entertainment facilitated these international sales, securing deals with distributors such as Autumn Sun Films (Hong Kong), Aqua Prima (Turkey), Gulf Films Entertainment (Middle East), Investacommerce AG (former Yugoslav territories), Destiny Films (France), Long Ride (Japan), MindJazz Pictures (Germany and Austria), New Cinema (Israel), Noori Pictures (South Korea), NOS Lusomundo Audiovisual (Portugal), NumeroUS Movie (China), Palace Entertainment (Australia and New Zealand), PVR Inox Pictures (India), Shaw Renters (Singapore), Swallow Wings Films (Taiwan), and Vertice Cine S.L. (Spain), in addition to global airline distribution via Terry Steiner International. The docufilm is a collaborative production by Brunello Cucinelli S.p.A. and MasiFilm, in partnership with RAI Cinema.
This film stands as a testament to the power of vision and ethical entrepreneurship. Brunello Cucinelli's story demonstrates that success can be achieved not just through innovation and hard work, but also by upholding values of human dignity, fair labor practices, and cultural preservation. His journey from humble beginnings to global recognition, while maintaining a deep connection to his roots and community, serves as an inspiring example for future generations in both business and life. It underscores the profound impact an individual can have when driven by a compassionate and principled approach.
