Guillermo del Toro

Oscar-winning filmmaker and author whose work and commentary explore fantasy, horror, and cinema.

The Canneseries festival is poised to recognize a trio of celebrated figures from the entertainment world: K-Pop idol and acclaimed actress Jisoo, the distinguished actor Adam Scott known for his role in "Severance," and the innovative creator of "Baby Reindeer," Richard Gadd. This year's event promises a vibrant convergence of global television talent and cutting-edge productions.

Highlighting the festival's diverse programming, Richard Gadd's anticipated follow-up series, "Half-Man," will make its debut outside the main competition. This premiere is part of an impressive slate of out-of-competition screenings, which includes a compelling Soviet-era sci-fi drama from AppleTV+, a chilling horror anthology from AMC, a British drama featuring Bill Nighy and Helena Bonham Carter, a French period police procedural, and an intense prison drama starring Tahar Rahim. The competition itself will showcase an eclectic mix of international series, such as a British relationship dramedy, a Finnish/Slovenian psychological thriller, a Danish family drama, a Spanish coming-of-age story, a Danish true-crime series, a Swedish historical drama, a Spanish comedic thriller, and an Iranian drama. Esteemed Spanish director Isabel Coixet will lead the jury, joined by notable figures like director Lesli Linka Glatter, actors Simon Astier, Vincent Elbaz, and Mamadou Sidib←, and composer Ruth Barrett.

Beyond the screenings and awards, the Canneseries industry section, spanning from April 23-25, will host engaging discussions and keynote addresses. Industry leaders such as "The White Lotus" producer David Bernad and "Our Boys" creators Hagai Levi and Tawfik Abu Wael are scheduled to speak. Panels will delve into a range of contemporary topics, including the global phenomenon of K-Drama, the evolving role of artificial intelligence in content creation, and the rise of vertical, mobile-first series, reflecting the dynamic landscape of modern television. The festival, running from April 23-28, is a beacon for celebrating artistic achievement and fostering innovation within the international television community.

This year's Canneseries festival exemplifies the power of storytelling to connect cultures and inspire audiences worldwide. By honoring diverse talent and showcasing a wide array of global narratives, the event reinforces the universal appeal and evolving nature of television as an art form. It fosters an environment where creativity thrives, new ideas are explored, and the collaborative spirit of the industry is celebrated, ultimately contributing to a richer and more interconnected global media landscape.
