Busy Philipps' Health Journey: From Brain Tumor Discovery to Recovery

Actress Busy Philipps has openly discussed a significant health challenge she faced earlier this year, involving the discovery and removal of a rare brain tumor through two surgical procedures.

During a detailed interview with People magazine, Philipps disclosed for the first time that a brain tumor was identified in February. “I’m grateful that I’m alive,” she stated, reflecting on what she described as “the weirdest six months of my life.” She explained that she pursued a full-body MRI, known as a Prenuvo scan, which screens for numerous conditions, despite not experiencing typical symptoms associated with a brain tumor. This proactive step led to the detection of a grade 2 oligodendroglioma, a slow-growing but malignant tumor.

Philipps’ journey included an initial five-hour surgery on March 2, which successfully removed a 2.6-centimeter mass. Her doctor clarified that while malignant, this type of glioma generally carries a favorable prognosis due to its growth pattern. Following a swift recovery, she began preparations for filming a TV series. However, a follow-up visit to her dermatologist revealed a staph infection at the surgical site in April, necessitating a second operation to clear the infected tissue. Philipps admitted this setback was disheartening, making her feel as though she was "back to square one." Despite the emotional toll, her medical team noted her remarkable resilience, describing her as “indomitable” as she bounced back once more.

This experience has profoundly impacted Philipps, reinforcing her belief in listening to her body and seeking medical attention even in the absence of obvious warning signs. She now encourages others to overcome any apprehension about obtaining medical information, viewing it as an empowering step toward better health. Her message underscores the critical importance of self-advocacy in healthcare and the value of early detection.
