Benicio Del Toro is poised to take on a prominent role in the forthcoming Apple TV+ comedy, 'Protective Custody.' This new series, which will also feature Ben Stiller as both a star and executive producer, signifies Del Toro's initial leading venture in a comedic television production. The show's narrative centers on a discredited financier grappling with the complexities of prison life, striving to restore his reputation and confront the ramifications of his misdeeds while awaiting trial.
The creative force behind 'Protective Custody' includes Mike Judge, who will direct and co-write the series alongside Steve Hely and Dave King. This project marks a significant reunion for Del Toro and Stiller, who previously garnered acclaim for their collaboration on the limited series 'Escape at Dannemora' in 2018. The series is being produced by Apple Studios, in conjunction with Stiller's Red Hour, Propagate Content, and 3 Arts Entertainment, with a team of executive producers including John Lesher, Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Michael Rotenberg, Oly Obst, and Nanette Burstein.
This initiative further solidifies Ben Stiller's prolific association with Apple TV+. His previous contributions to the platform encompass executive producing and directing episodes of the series 'Severance,' as well as his documentary 'Stiller & Meara: Nothing Is Lost,' which explores his parents' lives. Stiller is also actively involved in other Apple TV+ projects, including starring in and producing the upcoming film 'The Dink,' and is currently in production for 'The Off Weeks,' a limited series in which he stars opposite Jessica Chastain.
This venture underscores the platform's commitment to delivering diverse and engaging content. The collaborative efforts of such seasoned talents promise a compelling and entertaining addition to its growing library, reflecting a dynamic blend of dramatic depth and comedic flair. The show's premise, combined with the established track record of its cast and crew, suggests a series that will resonate with audiences, offering both humor and insightful commentary on the human condition.
