Munich-based Autentic, a division of Beta Film Group, has acquired the international rights to the critically acclaimed Swiss documentary series, "Game Over – The Fall of Credit Suisse." This compelling four-part series, helmed by Simon Helbling and co-written with journalist Arthur Rutishauser, meticulously documents the dramatic demise of the once-dominant Swiss banking giant in 2023 and its eventual takeover by rival UBS. The series provides an unflinching look at the inner workings of Credit Suisse, revealing a corporate environment characterized by high-risk ventures and an insatiable pursuit of profit, where substantial losses were tolerated as long as executive bonuses remained secure.
The documentary masterfully traces the evolution of this detrimental corporate ethos from the 1970s, illustrating how these ingrained practices set the stage for the bank's inevitable collapse. Having earned the Best Documentary award at the Giessen International Series Festival, the film's feature-length adaptation also achieved significant success in Swiss cinemas in 2025, becoming the highest-grossing documentary of the year. The series features exclusive interviews with prominent figures from the financial world, including current UBS CEO Sergio Ermotti, UBS board chairman Colm Kelleher, former Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank CEO Josef Ackermann, and Swiss Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter, offering profound insights into the decisions and events that shaped this financial saga.
Mirjam Strasser, Autentic's Director of Sales and Acquisitions, emphasizes the broad appeal of this "high-stakes financial thriller," noting its ability to captivate audiences well beyond Switzerland. The documentary, presented as both a four-part series and a 90-minute cinematic feature, leverages exclusive interviews and insider accounts to narrate the dramatic downfall of Credit Suisse. Director Simon Helbling's extensive two-year investigative journey, marked by challenging discussions and legal obstacles, aimed to uncover the true causes behind the collapse of one of the world's systemically important banks. Produced by Contrast Film and Tamedia, in collaboration with Swiss Studios and Kinescope Filmproduktion, the series is also notable as the first high-end docuseries in Switzerland to be predominantly funded by private investors, an outcome of the country's new Lex Netflix investment obligation scheme, signifying an innovative approach to content financing within the Swiss film industry.
This documentary serves as a powerful reminder that accountability and ethical governance are paramount in all sectors, especially within financial institutions that hold the trust and economic well-being of countless individuals. The insights gained from such comprehensive investigative journalism can guide future policies and corporate practices, fostering a more transparent and responsible global financial landscape for the collective good.
